Welcome to Schuyler's Page

For 35 years Schuyler (pronounced like “Skyler”), a 1987 Welsh Mountain Pony cross, (aka Spud, aka The Wonder Pony, aka Old Man) was so many things to so many people.  To 11 year old Heather and her family, he was a complete surprise and nothing short of a miracle.  To students of Castle Farm, he was patient, fuzzy, spunky, loveable (although he really didn’t care for all the hugs).  To the staff at Castle Farm, he was often a trickster, stubborn, opinionated, a master at getting out of his enclosures and doing what he wanted.  To people at competitions, her was often known as “Shoo-ler”, since no announcer could seem to pronounce his name correctly.  At those same competitions, he was also often known as a force to be reckoned with, especially if you were talking about a driving competition, and most especially in the obstacle classes.  While he was so good with the little kids that needed to learn how to walk and stop and turn and trot and post, his favorite things in the world (besides any food or drink he was offered, or not offered), were the kids that could take him galloping across the fields, jumping the big jumps, driving through the obstacles at top speed without knocking anything down, and driving through the Bojangles or Dunkin Donuts drive throughs to get a snack.  He was only 11.1 hands tall (45 inches to you non-horse people), but he had no idea he was that small.  He had the biggest heart and mind of any horse … er … pony, ever.  He was so smart that we often had to spell words around him, and he quickly learned how to spell too!  Most of all, to Heather, he was the ultimate love of her life.  He started her on a path to her dreams, even though she didn’t know it at the time.  They both taught each other so much in his 35 years, and they had so many adventures together.  I hope you enjoy remembering Schuyler's life. - Heather King

    GoFundMe for Schuyler's medical bills

Sometimes running a horse farm gets unexpectedly expensive. Schuyler was more a pet than a working member of the farm, and his final round of care at the North Carolina State University Veterinary Hospital created some big bills. Please, in memory of Schuyler, help out Castle Farm by making a donation to help pay those expenses.
